Never knew Chemistry was so exciting!
And chemistry is exciting because?..
Pupils at Westville House School love their science lessons. They love their laboratory with its fabulous microscopes – they love using chemicals to create reactions - so the chance to get involved in some serious chemistry experiments at Sedbergh Prep School excited many of the 10 and 11 year olds at WHS.
Nothing could have prepared them for the scale of excitement when they were actually allowed to play with fire…indoors! Better than that, they were actually allowed to set fire to their teachers!!!
This was a serious effort to teach some of the finer points of chemistry and to ‘light’ the touch paper to show how enjoyable the subject could be. Mr Ian Shuttleworth, Headmaster of Westville House, commented “it is fantastic to be able to light the spark of imagination for a child and provide a breadth of curriculum that allows a child to aspire. Chemistry, along with science generally, is tremendously exciting and we are proud to be able to give our children a taste of their future curriculum”
Everyone will be relieved to know that the children and the science lab didn’t come to any harm – moreover they loved the day …According to James Ellison age 10 “it was really awesome!”
