Life here begins with a wonderful Nursery experience full of excitement and fun and the real start to your child’s educational journey.
The Nursery is an integral part of school life. It is a newly built, state of the art facility. Bright, well-equipped and spacious with full use being made of the delightful and stimulating resources, together with the outdoor facilities available at the school, which fire the children’s imagination and interest in the world.
The Nursery is a morning class which runs from 8.40 am – 12.45 pm and all the children stay for lunch. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Curriculum but this is naturally enhanced with the ‘Westville Magic’. They then have the option of staying for an afternoon of exciting and enjoyable activities – including trips – in our ‘Fledglings’ group.
Children can start with us as early as the term in which they turn 3 years old and days can normally be flexible to suit your needs.
The 'Fledglings' is available every afternoon for Nursery age children and provides high quality Nursery care with experienced and well qualified staff from 12.45 pm - 6.00 pm. The children continue their day with an exciting programme of activities designed to meet their social, emotional and creative needs. There are plenty of opportunities for quiet ‘chill-out’ times as well as energetic games taking in lots of fresh air. Children can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including a wonderful adventure playground, play houses, bikes, scooters and other play equipment. Nursery tea and snacks are provided. Parents can use the service daily or on an occasional basis. Children can be signed in on the morning - no other notice is required.
Busy parents can take advantage of the complete Wrap Round care provision that is available –
your child can arrive from 7.45am and stay until 6.00pm
Complete peace of mind for parents with increasingly busy lives.
Following their Nursery Year, children begin their full-time education at WHS in the Reception Class. They continue to follow the Early Years’ Foundation Curriculum, with activities matched to their individual needs and requirements. The children’s learning continues through structured play with activities based around the six areas of the Foundation Curriculum. They use our Outdoor Area as well as the classroom to develop the skills needed in Key Stage 1.
At the end of the Foundation Stage a profile is completed for each child. This is a summary of their achievements and provides an important record for parents and the next teacher. Continuity and progression are important to ensure a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1.
