Perched on the top of a stunning hillside location, with views across to The Cow and Calf, lies Westville House School, Ilkley's foremost provider of independent education. The gleaming white school building stands proud in acres of grounds and exudes fun, strong values, pride in tradition and a strong belief in the Westville family.
Originally based down in the town centre, the school relocated to its current site over 20 years ago and has gone from strength to strength, developing fantastic education facilities. Inspirational classrooms are to be seen throughout the school; specialist science, art and music classrooms along with a sophisticated IT suite, a state of the art sports hall with attached playing fields and most recently a forest classroom stimulate learning and encourage fun.
From the minute a child begins their journey at Westville House, they are valued for who they are…the Early Years' unit which takes children from 3 years , devotes masses of energy to building foundations that will set the children up for life. Each child has education tailored for their needs – and for those who are very able there is masses to challenge…whilst for those who need a little bit of extra help there is huge encouragement and a clear development of an excitement about learning.
Children progress through the Pre-Prep department (ages 2-7) and then on through the Prep department (ages 7-11) . They emerge as well-rounded, confident, and above all very happy children whose memories of their time at Westville prompt them to return year after year.
Academics are brilliant here and the school is consistently ranked in the Sunday Times Top 50 Prep Schools in the UK – a fantastic achievement for a small non-selective school. Children regularly achieve scholarships to many independent senior schools and gain entrance to the local selective grammar schools.
Academics aside, there is a whole host of extra-curricular activities designed to have something to suit every child. The school is particularly strong in swimming and cross country… drama and dance produces some excellent school productions. Music, in the form of choirs and instrumental lessons, is encouraged and the school ensemble is always seen as great fun. As the children progress through the school new activities and experiences are opened up to them…canoeing, fencing, first aid, street dancing.. all geared to ensure that Westville children are totally prepared for their journey on to the senior school of their choice.
A recent £1million investment programme has seen huge enviable changes at the school. A new state of the art Early Years facility has been built which gives direct access to beautiful woodland grounds for secure play. This is designed to take a limited number of children from 2 years old. A new Library, Media Centre, ICT Suite and huge school hub have added enormously to the amazing facilities on offer.
The school's motto Quotidie Opus Novum….something new every day…really does sum up the excitement of coming to Westville House - the beginning of a lifelong education where an appetite for learning is something to be nurtured and enjoyed.
