Westville House School was founded in 1960 by Mrs Una Mason. Designed to be an extension of her own family, the school was based in Mrs Una Mason's family home on Westville Road, Ilkley. Her ethos back in the early days was to provide first class education for boys and girls aged 3 to 11…we are proud to say that is very much the essence of the school today.

Following changes in ownership, the school relocated to a most stunning leafy location, overlooking the Wharfe Valley, in premises refurbished from the original Ilkley hospital nurses home with its beautiful grounds for the children to enjoy.
Once the move was completed, the school continued to grow in a dynamic and vibrant way. Many new projects were undertaken to provide outstanding facilities for all of the children across all areas of the curriculum. These have included the building of a full sized multi-purpose hall offering huge opportunities for the children and wider community. Also offering theatre style seating, it makes an excellent venue for the musical and drama productions that the school is renowned for.
Next came the purchase and redevelopment of the school sports fields – a huge opportunity to develop sporting activities across the spectrum – from rugby, hockey, netball, football, and athletics to the ever popular annual sports days enjoyed by all the Westville family.
May of 2014 saw the opening of “The Holloway Hut” – a wonderful forest classroom enjoyed by the whole school community and inspirational in integrating the total curriculum into the great outdoors.

In 2015, the Governors launched a £1million development to massively upgrade the school facilities. A brand new state of the art Early Years facility housing Pre-school and Reception classrooms was built along with a central Hub which links the new buildings to the main school. The Hub is now central to the everyday life of the school. A new Media Suite and Library were developed on the ground floor and an impressive ICT Suite created on the first floor. New work rooms dedicated to children with additional educational needs have been created and additional curriculum resources have been added throughout the school.
The Governing Body works tirelessly to support the work of the school and its staff. It endeavours to be forward thinking and is continually looking to the future to ensure that Westville continues to deliver first class education facilities and opportunities for every child. To that end the Governors led the school successfully through a period of transition from private ownership to that of a Charitable Trust formed in 2001.
More recently, Westville continues to be placed in the Sunday Times Top 50 UK Preparatory Schools, receives Outstanding Inspection Reports and is included in The Good Schools Guide. All of this indicates the high esteem in which the school is held, locally and nationally, as one of the leading Northern Preparatory Schools offering exceptional education for your child.
