Academic Excellence

The academic achievements of our pupils in the 2014 SAT papers and the entrance exams for the senior schools for our current Form 4 (Year 6) pupils have been tremendous.

Congratulations must go to all those children involved, they have worked enormously hard and should be justly proud of their achievements.

The following table gives our results for the externally marked SAT papers – included also are the National results for comparison. The writing in English is now internally assessed and is combined with the reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling marks to give an overall English mark.

The Westville House results not only show evidence of the high standards that we are setting but also show that our pupils consistently achieve higher than their predicted results. As a non-selective school we are able to prove that whatever the ability of a pupil, they fulfil their potential and more.

Pupils are entered into the SATs each year for several reasons - primarily they are an externally assessed benchmark for parents to judge the standards within the school against the national standards. Every year a proportion of Westville pupils who move onto state secondary schools - by taking the SATs they can move seamlessly into the state sector with the same educational records as their peers. The SAT marks are also used to create the Sunday Times’ Prep School League Table - this year we are ranked 35th in the country; an outstanding achievement by the pupils and teachers.

CONGRATULATIONS GO TO OUR CURRENT FORM 4 CLASS (YEAR 6)

Everyone has worked very hard and together they have passed to a wide range of schools including the selective state schools Skipton Girls’ High and Ermysted’s, and the following independent schools - Ashville College, Bradford Grammar, Giggleswick, Grammar School at Leeds, Harrogate Ladies’ College, Queen Margaret’s, St Olave’s and Woodhouse Grove.

Many pupils performed particularly well and have achieved the scholarships at a number of senior schools these include:

  • Sports Exhibition Award, Giggleswick
  •  All-Rounder Scholarship, Woodhouse Grove
  •  Academic Foundation Scholarship, Grammar School at Leeds
  • Charter Scholar (academic), Bradford Grammar School
  • Sports Scholarship, Giggleswick
  • Music Scholarship, Queen Margaret’s

We congratulate all of the pupils, teachers and parents for these great achievements - these results are due to a true partnership in the education of each child. Particularly pleasing is that these results reflect many of the talents that we aim to develop in our pupils.

Our mission statement states our aim “to provide the children with a first-class start in life, giving them an excellent grounding for their secondary education and their futures.” It is always with great pleasure that we hear from parents and Head Teachers alike, of how well our pupils cope with the transition to their next school.

Our family ethos and high standards enable each child to give of their very best and develop into happy, well balanced young people, as these great results show.
