Grandparents joined excited grandchildren to share in an innovative and magical Silver Scientists Day at Westville House School. Many of them travelled quite a distance for the event with some coming from as far away as Cornwall.

Keen to share their experiences and knowledge, the children from ages 6 up to 11, worked with their Grandparents and guided them through a host of experiments - the favourite being the building of the ‘Tallest Tower’ using just uncooked spaghetti and marshmallows!!

Bishop Toby, spending the week in the locality, was keen to meet with the school children and see first hand the exceptional education on offer at the school. He even had time to make a video to add to his video diary.

Huge excitement was created when all the children and their grandchildren came together to see Dr Marty Jopson, The BBC’s One Show Resident Scientist and CBBC Presenter, perform a fantastic science show. Marty has been presenting science and history on television for ten years and has thirteen years making science props for TV programmes, museums and live events.

Mr Christian Adamthwaite, Deputy Head at Westville House School, who organised the inspirational event, commented how the ‘silver scientists’ had been so interested and loved working with their Grandchildren. “This has been another example of the way Westville is forward thinking and leading education…we are delighted that so many Grandparents could join us and look forward to this becoming an annual event”
