Welcome from the Headmaster Mr Ian D Shuttleworth
Westville House is one of England's leading Preparatory Schools and provides both boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 11 with an outstanding co-educational experience. The school ensures that all children receive an exceptional level of preparation in order to support them throughout their senior school and adult lives. The children follow a very broad, creative and innovative curriculum, which ensures they enjoy their learning, are engaged and achieve the highest academic standards.
As a school, we are keen to encourage the children towards engaging in regular physical activity and believe that sport and competition plays a very important part in a child's development and general well- being. With this in mind, a range of sporting and extra-curricular activities are made available. Every pupil has the opportunity to represent their school, whether that be on the sports field, musically, whilst performing on stage or when representing their House.
At Westville House, our excellent pastoral system ensures that the children are happy, safe and secure and are able to enjoy the many different experiences of being a child. We feel it to be extremely important that they develop the many social, moral, spiritual and cultural skills needed to meet the demands of modern day teenage and adult life.
The formative years your child will spend in their Pre-Prep and Prep School, are critically influential in developing strong independent learning skills and a robust work ethic; this in turn will provide solid foundations for them to achieve future success. As important, is the need for key social skills and traditional values to be established and for a mind-set to emerge where new challenges will be welcomed and where a confident, happy keenness to 'have a go' will overide the 'fear of failure'
Inclusivity and mutual respect are central to the school's family orientated ethos and all children will be regularly encouraged to embrace new challenges in order to extend them beyond their previous encounters. At Westville House, 'everybody is somebody' and both effort and attainment are celebrated equally, encouraging all individuals to maximise their potential and become, 'the best version of themselves.'
I look forward, as the Headmaster of this amazing school, to welcoming all your family to all that is Westville House.
